Christian Anderaos, UMKC alumnus, has made impressive strides in both his athletic and professional career since his time at UMKC. Currently a professional indoor soccer player for the Kansas City Comets and certified by the American Council on Exercise in exercise and nutrition, Christian’s journey is nothing short of inspirational.
“UMKC always gave me everything I needed and all the tools that I needed,” Christian reflects on his time at the university. “Every time I have an opportunity to give it back, I do it right away because I’m extremely grateful.”
In addition to his role on the field, Christian has embarked on an exciting new venture. “We recently started Playmaker Soccer Academy. We have over 200 kids already signed up, and it’s doing really well,” he shares. Partnering with Rian Marques, a fellow Brazilian and teammate with the KC Comets, Christian combines his expertise in child development with Rian’s business insights. “Eventually, I want to bring a nonprofit branch to it,” he adds, highlighting his commitment to giving back to the community.
Christian’s involvement doesn’t stop there. He has also contributed to the growth of women’s soccer through his work with Tico Sports who partners with professional and collegiate teams to deliver live game broadcasts creating a bilingual social media network.
“When the KC Current Team started their huge project, they wanted to ensure that Portuguese-speaking fans could understand the game,” he explains. “Being part of this moment, seeing women’s sports globalized, was truly an honor.”
To current students, Christian offers valuable advice. “Live life to the fullest. If you’re going to a meeting, give it your all. If you’re in a class, engage and participate. Networking is crucial, not just at formal events but every day,” he suggests. Reflecting on his own journey, he emphasizes the importance of building connections and staying true to oneself. “Networking is key, and it’s everywhere you go,” he shares.
As Christian Anderaos continues to make waves both on and off the field, his story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that dedication, authenticity, and community can have.
